Mechanical Completion Walk Down Inspection for Oil & Gas Process Systems

YEZRO inspectors conducted a comprehensive Mechanical Completion walk down inspection for oil and gas process systems, verifying piping, valves, instruments, structures, and outstanding construction items prior to commissioning and handover.

Project: Oil & Gas Processing Facility
Service: Mechanical Completion Inspection & Punch Listing
Location: Middle East Oilfield

As part of the Mechanical Completion phase, YEZRO inspectors conducted a comprehensive walk down inspection of process systems within an operating oil and gas processing facility.

The inspection focused on mechanical equipment, piping systems, valves, instruments, structural steelwork, and associated civil works to verify readiness for commissioning and handover.

System-Based Walk Down Approach

The project team carried out inspections according to approved Mechanical Completion System Numbers. Each system boundary was reviewed individually to ensure that construction activities had been completed in accordance with project specifications, engineering drawings, and client requirements.

The walk down process included verification of:

  • Process piping installation
  • Valve installation and accessibility
  • Instrument tagging and mounting
  • Structural steel components
  • Pipe supports and platforms
  • Civil works associated with equipment foundations
  • Outstanding construction activities

P&ID Verification

A critical part of the inspection involved comparing field installations against approved Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

YEZRO inspectors performed detailed checks to verify:

  • Equipment tag numbers
  • Valve types and orientations
  • Instrument identification tags
  • Drain and vent arrangements
  • Process line routing
  • Isolation and safety devices

Field conditions were carefully reviewed to ensure consistency with engineering documentation and operational requirements.

Outstanding Items Assessment

The inspection team also reviewed previously identified construction deficiencies and open items from earlier inspections.

Each item was assessed for:

  • Completion status
  • Operational impact
  • Safety considerations
  • Commissioning readiness

Any remaining deficiencies were documented and categorized according to priority.

Punch List Development

Following completion of the walk down activities, a comprehensive Punch List was generated.

Typical observations included:

  • Missing identification tags
  • Incomplete insulation works
  • Valve position indicators requiring adjustment
  • Minor piping installation issues
  • Structural touch-up requirements
  • Documentation discrepancies

The Punch List serves as a key tool for contractors and project management teams to close outstanding work prior to system handover.
